About The Position

The State of Michigan is seeking an experienced Software Test Analyst to support software quality assurance and testing activities for technology initiatives and application enhancements. The successful candidate will work closely with developers, business analysts, IT teams, project teams, and business stakeholders to ensure applications and system changes meet business requirements, functionality, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any major; degree must be completed.
  • 7+ years of experience in IT quality assurance, software testing, or systems analysis.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing and executing test cases.
  • 5+ years of experience identifying, documenting, and tracking software defects.
  • 5+ years of experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, or similar defect/test management tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
  • Candidate must be located within 1.5 hours of Lansing, MI at the time of submission.
  • Candidate must be available for an in-person interview in Lansing, MI.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SQL and database testing.
  • Experience testing APIs and system integrations.
  • Experience with automated testing tools and automated regression testing.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Experience testing web-based and enterprise applications.
  • Strong knowledge of SDLC and software testing methodologies.
  • Experience supporting large-scale IT projects or system implementations.
  • Previous State Government experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans, test cases, test scenarios, and test scripts based on business and technical requirements.
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, system, and UAT testing.
  • Review requirements and identify gaps, inconsistencies, and potential quality risks.
  • Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects through resolution.
  • Collaborate with developers and business stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and validate fixes.
  • Develop repeatable automated test banks and regression test suites to improve test coverage.
  • Create testing metrics and measure test quality against defined requirements.
  • Perform data validation and reconciliation using SQL as needed.
  • Test APIs, system integrations, interfaces, and application workflows.
  • Perform regression testing following application changes and releases.
  • Support deployment, release, and production validation activities.
  • Maintain accurate testing documentation, results, and defect records.
  • Provide status updates on testing progress, defects, risks, and outstanding issues.
  • Participate in requirements reviews, project meetings, and release planning.
  • Recommend improvements to testing processes and overall application quality.
