About The Position

The Boeing Company’s Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is hiring an Associate, Experienced, or Senior Software Quality Engineer to join its Software Quality Engineering team. The position is based primarily onsite in El Segundo, California, with possible additional support in Seal Beach, California. The role works with programs to ensure that required processes are used to develop, control, and verify software products developed by Boeing or supplied by external vendors. It calls for a broad understanding of software development practices, tools, and processes, along with an interest in advocating First Time Quality strategies. Knowledge of quality standards such as AS9100 and AS9115 is preferred. The engineer works under general supervision and may travel up to 10% of the time.

The selected candidate must meet U.S. export control requirements as a U.S. Person and hold an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance; a clearance active within the past 24 months is considered active. U.S. citizenship is required for the clearance. Boeing will not sponsor employment visas. The position is not contingent upon a program award and is not safety sensitive. Candidates must also satisfy Boeing’s Conflict of Interest assessment process.

The listed salary ranges are $94,500–$136,500 for Associate (Level 2), $113,400–$163,800 for Experienced (Level 3), and $138,600–$200,200 for Senior (Level 4). Pay depends on experience, qualifications, and market and business considerations. The available programs and options depend on eligibility factors. Relocation assistance is not negotiable.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
• At least 1 year of experience working on a project that uses various software development methodologies.
• At least 1 year of experience in a Software Quality role.
• At least 1 year of experience independently developing, modifying, and documenting actions to resolve problems and/or implement corrective or preventive action.
• Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements as a U.S. Person.
• Must have an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance; a clearance active within the past 24 months is considered active. U.S. citizenship is required for the clearance.
• Must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest assessment process.

Nice To Haves

• More than 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, for Level 3.
• More than 5 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, for Level 4.
• Experience in Quality Management Systems (QMS) auditing.
• Software Quality Engineering experience supporting software subject to AS9115, DO-178, and/or MIL-STD-882E requirements.
• Experience with the full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
• Experience with configuration management and collaboration tools such as Git, Jira, Collaborator, Bitbucket, and Beyond Compare, or similar tools.
• Software development experience in a collaborative team environment using agile principles and a structured development process, including code reviews and automated DevOps processes or tools.
• Broad background in software development practices, tools, and processes; knowledge of quality standards such as AS9100 and AS9115 is strongly preferred.
• Team-oriented, self-motivated, and able to learn the role’s responsibilities quickly.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; resilience; ability to provide and receive constructive feedback; and ability to communicate boundaries assertively while fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain software quality engineering program plans.
• Review software life-cycle documents and program products using established criteria; comment on them and recommend approval.
• Conduct limited audits of software engineering processes and associated support functions.
• Assist with configuration management activities, including software product release and change control boards.
• Assist with reviews of deviations and waivers to the software baseline.
• Improve products and processes and manage risk.
• Verify pre-test setup.
• Monitor or witness test activity against established test plans and procedures.
• Assist with verification of test results against performance requirements.
• Perform final reconciliation of simple software data products using established procedures and methods.
• Assist in verifying the acceptability of segments of suppliers’ software quality systems and programs.
• Assist with software acceptance and delivery activities for low-risk procurements.
• Identify nonconformances and issue corrective actions.
• Review and approve corrective and preventive action plans.
• Assist in verifying the effectiveness of corrective and preventive action plans.
