Software Program Performance Engineer IV

Axiom Space•Houston, TX

About The Position

Axiom Space is seeking a Software Program Performance Engineer IV to own the quantitative and process backbone of its software program across five programs and Station software elements. The role generates and communicates metrics used by leadership and the Government to assess progress, cost, schedule, and risk; guides software processes in accordance with the Software Management Plan; and manages the software Integrated Master Schedule and its connection to execution tooling. The position also maintains requirements and interface traceability from model through test and coordinates release, formal qualification, and documentation events for the Test and Project Support team. It provides a consistent, clear, and auditable view of software performance from planning through verification. The work is generally performed in an office environment, though tasks may involve inside or outside work. The position may require access to export-controlled technical data or technology, and candidates may undergo export-control screening as a condition of employment. Evening and weekend work may be required as needed to meet critical project milestones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, systems engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing an Integrated Master Schedule in a large-program toolset such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project on a complex, multi-team program.
  • Working knowledge of CMMI process metrics and software process assurance.
  • Experience with requirements management and traceability, and familiarity with MBSE and Interface Control Documents.
  • Experience coordinating formal test, release, or configuration events, including associated records and documentation.
  • Strong data discipline and ability to turn program data into clear, decision-ready status.

  • Sound judgment and a proactive, positive approach to solving hard problems.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines while delivering high-quality results.
  • Passion for space and the mission.
  • Entrepreneurial, growth mindset.
  • High EQ and ability to collaborate within teams and cross-functionally.
  • Ability to use systems and tools to move smarter and faster.
  • Demonstrate accountability, technical rigor, execution discipline, and pride of delivery.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones.
  • May be required to undergo export-control screening for eligibility to access controlled technical data or technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Aerospace or human spaceflight program experience in flight or ground software.
  • Familiarity with NPR 7150.2 (software engineering requirements) and NASA-STD-8739.8 (software assurance).
  • Experience with Jira in a schedule-integrated workflow.
  • Prior CMMI appraisal participation and exposure to safety-critical software verification and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Administer CMMI process metrics for the software program, generating, reporting, and communicating them regularly to teams and leadership.
  • Maintain metric definitions and collection methods so results are deterministic, consistent, and auditable across programs.
  • Serve as process proctor, assessor, and metrics collector for the Software Management Plan; identify adherence gaps and track them to closure.
  • Collect and maintain process evidence to support CMMI appraisals and customer insight.
  • Manage the software Integrated Master Schedule in the governing tool across major Axiom programs, reconciling schedule and execution.
  • Implement and maintain agile project management practices throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate progress, status, and emerging risks to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Assess requirements and maintain traceability from model through verification.
  • Support Model Based Systems Engineering by maintaining bidirectional traceability and managing Interface Control Documents.
  • Coordinate software releases for the Test and Project Support team, including Run-For-Record events and Release Reports.
  • Support Formal Qualification Testing and related safety assurance activities aligned to certification and verification gates.
