About The Position

Traffic Engineering Infrastructure (TEI) owns the Layer 3 and Layer 4 network connecting customers, internal teams, and cloud providers to Splunk Enterprise Cloud across AWS, GCP, Azure, and GovCloud. The network carries customer data and search traffic and is foundational to Splunk Cloud. The role joins a collaborative team of five engineers that is converting manual network requests into a self-service platform. The technical leader sets the long-term direction for the connectivity platform, makes architecture and build-versus-buy decisions, and develops services, APIs, and infrastructure as code to provision cloud networking resources. The role leads major initiatives, mentors engineers, establishes engineering standards, and participates in a weekly on-call rotation to address customer incidents and eliminate root causes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience, or master's degree and 6 years of related experience, or PhD and 3 years of related experience.
  • Experience building and operating large-scale production systems in Go and/or Python.
  • Experience with Layer 3 and Layer 4 networking, including IP routing, CIDR design, NAT, TCP and UDP, load balancing, and TLS.
  • Experience with cloud networking in AWS, GCP, or Azure, including VPCs or VNETs, route tables, security groups, transit gateways, and private endpoints.
  • Experience building infrastructure as code with Terraform at scale, including reusable modules and CI/CD with safe production promotion.
  • Experience leading major technical initiatives and influencing engineering direction beyond the immediate team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multi-cloud transit and hybrid connectivity, such as AWS Cloud WAN, Transit Gateway, Aviatrix, BGP, Direct Connect, Cloud Interconnect, or IPsec VPN.
  • Experience with private connectivity services such as AWS PrivateLink, GCP Private Service Connect, or Azure Private Link.
  • Experience with IP address management at scale using NetBox or a purpose-built service, and with IPv6 dual-stack design, including BYOIP.
  • Experience with Kubernetes in production or regulated environments such as GovCloud, FedRAMP, or DoD IL5.
  • Strong communication and mentoring skills, including a track record of growing engineers across levels and explaining complex networking topics to engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

  • Set the long-term technical direction for the connectivity platform, including architecture and build-versus-buy decisions such as IP address management.
  • Build services, APIs, and infrastructure as code to provision VPCs, VNETs, load balancers, private endpoints, and transit for self-service customer connectivity.
  • Lead major initiatives, including self-service provisioning and forward-looking network architecture.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, design feedback, pairing, and coaching.
  • Shape standards for code quality, testing, and observability.
  • Participate in the weekly on-call rotation, apply technical judgment to customer incidents, and fix root causes to reduce team toil.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, subject to plan eligibility rules.
  • 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • Basic life insurance.
  • Cisco restricted stock unit grants may be available, subject to continued employment and vesting terms.
  • Paid holidays, a floating holiday for non-exempt employees, birthday time off, year-end holiday shutdown, and personal wellness days.
  • Vacation time: non-exempt employees receive 16 days per full calendar year; eligible exempt employees participate in a flexible vacation program with no defined limit, subject to availability and business limitations.
  • 80 hours of sick time off provided on hire and each January 1, with up to 80 unused hours carried forward.
