Software Engineering Technical Leader

Cisco•Milpitas, MI
•Onsite

About The Position

Cisco Node Visuals (CNV) builds interactive network and geographic visualizations for Cisco products, helping users understand complex enterprise network data across physical, virtual, and cloud environments. The engineering team combines GPU-accelerated graphics, mathematics, and algorithm development, and follows an InnerSource model to share code and build reusable capabilities across Cisco organizations. Team members work as forward-deployed engineers, partnering directly with product teams to address network and geographic visualization challenges. The Software Engineering Technical Leader will lead CNV architecture and delivery from design through deployment, building secure, reusable visualization capabilities for Cisco enterprise product teams. The role includes developing high-performance 2D and 3D network and geographic views for cloud, on-premises, and air-gapped environments that do not rely on runtime access to external mapping services. The leader will develop and optimize algorithms for large, dynamic datasets; set engineering standards; use tests and benchmarks to validate performance; guide technical priorities; mentor engineers; and influence product strategy through hands-on work, technical reviews, and contributions to Cisco’s intellectual-property portfolio. This is an onsite position based out of Milpitas, California. The posted starting salary range is $186,900 to $267,700, with ranges varying for certain locations. Cisco offers eligible U.S. employees benefits and paid time away, subject to applicable plan rules and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any engineering discipline.
  • At least 7 years of frontend engineering experience architecting and delivering web applications, libraries, or frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with WebGL2, GPU-accelerated graphics, or comparable real-time rendering technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing mapping, GIS, geospatial analytics, or location-based visualization software using geographic coordinate systems, coordinate transformations, map projections, vector-map data, GeoJSON, polygon triangulation, and spatial indexing.
  • Experience designing performance-critical algorithms and applying graph theory, linear algebra, computational geometry, and mathematical optimization.
  • Experience with shader programming, graphics buffers, textures, batching, GPU resource management, and CPU, GPU, memory, and browser performance profiling.
  • Experience building reusable visualization frameworks or developer-facing APIs, with familiarity with HTML Canvas, SVG, accessibility, and enterprise design systems.
