Software Engineering Technical Leader

Cisco•Milpitas, CA
•$186,900 - $267,700•Onsite

About The Position

Cisco Node Visuals (CNV) builds interactive network and geographic visualizations for Cisco products, helping users understand enterprise network data across physical, virtual, and cloud environments. The engineering team combines expertise in GPU-accelerated graphics, mathematics, and algorithm development, and follows an InnerSource model to share code and develop reusable capabilities across Cisco organizations. Team members partner directly with product teams as forward-deployed engineers. The Software Engineering Technical Leader leads CNV architecture and delivery from design through deployment, building secure, reusable visualization capabilities for Cisco enterprise product teams. The role develops high-performance 2D and 3D network and geographic views for cloud, on-premises, and air-gapped environments that cannot rely on runtime access to external mapping services. It also advances algorithms for topology layout, rendering, aggregation, animation, navigation, and spatial interaction with large, dynamic datasets. The leader sets engineering standards, verifies performance through testing and benchmarks, guides technical priorities, mentors engineers, contributes hands-on, and influences product strategy and Cisco’s intellectual-property portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any engineering discipline.
  • 7+ years of frontend engineering experience architecting and delivering web applications, libraries, or frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with WebGL2, GPU-accelerated graphics, or comparable real-time rendering technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing mapping, GIS, geospatial analytics, or location-based visualization software using geographic coordinate systems, coordinate transformations, map projections, vector-map data, GeoJSON, polygon triangulation, and spatial indexing.
  • Experience designing performance-critical algorithms and applying graph theory, linear algebra, computational geometry, and mathematical optimization.
  • Experience with shader programming, graphics buffers, textures, batching, GPU resource management, and CPU, GPU, memory, and browser performance profiling.
  • Experience building reusable visualization frameworks or developer-facing APIs, with familiarity with HTML Canvas, SVG, accessibility, and enterprise design systems.
  • Experience owning technical architecture, mentoring engineers, and leading distributed or multidisciplinary teams through cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead CNV architecture and delivery from design through deployment.
  • Build secure, reusable visualization capabilities adopted by Cisco enterprise product teams.
  • Develop high-performance 2D and 3D network and geographic views for cloud, on-premises, and air-gapped environments without runtime access to external mapping services.
  • Develop and optimize algorithms for topology layout, rendering, aggregation, animation, navigation, and spatial interaction for large, dynamic datasets.
  • Set engineering standards and use tests and performance benchmarks to verify improvements in rendering speed, memory use, startup time, and interaction latency.
  • Guide technical priorities, mentor engineers, and influence product strategy through hands-on development and technical reviews.
  • Contribute to Cisco’s intellectual-property portfolio.
  • Partner directly with product teams to solve network and geographic visualization challenges.
