Software Engineering Manager

. Crane Worldwide Logistics .•Houston, TX

About The Position

The Software Engineering Manager leads the engineering team responsible for Bag Caddie's production portal while remaining hands-on and writing production code every week across the storefront, backend, and frontend. The role owns portal uptime, page performance, checkout reliability, and defects affecting orders or conversion, and leads incident response with a focus on durable fixes. It is the primary technical contact for Bag Caddie stakeholders, translating business requirements into technical scope, identifying risks, and setting realistic delivery commitments. The manager designs the architecture connecting Shopify with Crane systems, including order, inventory, shipment, and tracking data flows, API contracts, and supporting backend services. The role builds and customizes the Shopify storefront and apps, implements payment processing and credit card handling consistent with tokenization and PCI standards, and uses storefront analytics to identify conversion and usability issues. It also sets engineering standards and works with Application Engineering, Client Integrations, and platform teams to use shared tools and patterns. The role hires, onboards, develops, and manages engineers; sets expectations and provides feedback; runs performance and career conversations; and adjusts team size to customer roadmap needs. It leads the agile delivery cadence, ensures clear work ownership, documents system design and operational procedures, participates in on-call rotation, and provides extended coverage during customer peak sales periods. Other duties may be assigned.
