The Crown Is Yours As a Software Engineering Manager, you'll lead a high-impact backend platform team building foundational technology that powers DraftKings Engineering at scale. You'll balance people leadership, technical direction, and delivery while partnering across the organization to develop reusable services and capabilities that support multiple products and business verticals. You'll own a forward-looking platform roadmap focused on scalability, reliability, developer experience, and operational excellence while developing a high-performing engineering team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or any suitable combination of education, experience, and training.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing software engineering teams, driving technical excellence and supporting individual development.
  • Experience leading platform, infrastructure, shared-services, or developer-enablement teams that support multiple products or business areas.
  • A proven track record of developing technical roadmaps that balance stakeholder needs with scalability, reliability, extensibility, and developer experience.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills, with experience aligning stakeholders, managing competing priorities, and influencing across teams.
  • Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language, such as C# or Java, with hands-on experience using modern .NET technologies.
  • Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, message brokers such as Kafka, and cloud infrastructure and services, especially within AWS.
  • Experience operating production systems, including observability, incident response, capacity planning, cost optimization, and continuous reliability improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of day-to-day operations for an Engineering team, including planning, prioritization, execution, delivery, and team rituals.
  • Build and develop a high-performing team through hiring, onboarding, coaching, feedback, performance management, and career development.
  • Own your team’s platform roadmap and priorities, balancing stakeholder commitments with long-term scalability, reliability, extensibility, and developer experience.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders across DraftKings to understand product strategies, integration needs, technical constraints, and future growth plans.
  • Identify shared needs and translate them into reusable services, APIs, tools, and self-service capabilities that accelerate delivery and reduce duplicated engineering effort.
  • Facilitate architectural discussions and design sessions, guiding decisions around service contracts, platform standards, integrations, migrations, and technical tradeoffs.
  • Serve as the technical point of accountability for your team and dive into code reviews, architecture decisions, or complex troubleshooting when needed.
  • Promote engineering and operational excellence across the platform, championing reliability, performance, scalability, observability, security, documentation, automation, and continuous improvement.
