Software Engineering Manager

BoomAustin, TX
$140,000 - $220,000Onsite

About The Position

Boom is expanding its engineering team to meet the growing demands of its B2B partners and B2C users. With a robust product roadmap and new opportunities on the horizon, we're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead one of our product engineering teams, scale how we deliver, and grow the engineers on the team. The specific team you'll lead depends on your background and where we have the biggest need. This role offers the chance to work closely with our Co-founders, product leadership, and senior engineers, contributing directly to the growth of the company as we move from Seed to Series A and beyond. For this role, we are hiring for candidates in Austin, TX, where our leadership and product team is located. Comp range listed is directional and adjustable +/- based on competency. Our engineering culture is hands-on and pragmatic -- we value shipping real product, maintaining high standards, and communicating clearly. If you're a player-coach who's excited about building a team, shipping impactful product, and operating in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, reach out.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ years managing engineers directly with a track record of developing them
  • Strong technical foundation. You've shipped real pieces of a production roadmap and can run a design review, debug a production incident, and make architecture tradeoffs
  • Backend-leaning full stack on Ruby (Grape) with React/Next.js and TypeScript on the frontend. Comfortable with third-party APIs (OAuth, webhooks, rate limits, idempotency), observability, on-call, incident management, AWS, and Terraform
  • You're already running AI coding agents autonomously, including overnight, to ship.Daily Claude Code use is table stakes. We expect you to lead by example and push your team to do the same
  • Strong communicator and self-starter who can represent engineering to non-technical stakeholders and is comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced, early-stage environment
  • Empathy for our end users, including low-to-moderate-income renters, and a desire to build products that make a difference

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 4-8 engineers on one of our product engineering teams.
  • Stay deep in the code. You'll write and ship features alongside your team, not just review their PRs
  • Own delivery end to end (planning, prioritization, scope tradeoffs, on-time shipping, performance management) in partnership with your PM
  • Run design reviews, code review standards, on-call, standup and incident response
  • Grow engineers through regular 1:1s, real feedback, career conversations, and stretch work. Performance manage when needed
  • Lead hiring for your team and help raise the bar across the org

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with stock options
  • Full healthcare coverage (health, dental, vision) including 50% coverage for dependents
  • 15 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) per year + 3 sick days + all US federal holidays (11 in total)
  • Company-issued laptop/MacBook
  • Company-sponsored training & development
  • Regular off-sites, retreats, and other company-sponsored events and travel opportunities
