About The Position

The Strategic Defense Solutions Software Center is seeking a Section Leader/Senior Manager to lead members of our software development team located onsite in St. Petersburg, FL. Our teams develop software in a variety of languages, primarily C++. This position includes an individual contributor workload where you can expect to work on many if not all the phases of the software development life cycle. In this position, you will be responsible for providing practical solutions to difficult technical software problems. Software Engineering positions include working on a variety of different tasks including real-time software development, application software development, test and verification, data analysis, software tools development, and many others. Teams are organized using Agile scrum methodology. The Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) Program is the primary program at the St. Petersburg, FL site.

Requirements

  • An active and in-scope Secret U.S. security clearance required day 1 of employment with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret US security clearance.
  • Experience developing C/C++ and Object-oriented software designs and code in a team-based development environment, preferably Agile/SCRUM, DevSecOps and test automation.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including ability to produce technical documentation, and the desire to learn new technologies and tools.
  • Demonstrated success in prior leadership roles.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Top Secret clearance is preferred.
  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, systems software design, operating systems, architectures, software development life cycle and processes.
  • Experience with EVMS (earned value management systems) or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Performs management activities and provides leadership for approximately 10-15 software engineers.
  • Provides technical development of people, providing and identifying appropriate training for people, and performance management.
  • Teams with the Department Leader in the rollout and adherence to organizational policies, goals, and initiatives.
  • Ensures two-way communication for the section members; serves as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments, performance, and recognition.
  • Coordinates program staffing needs and reductions, and interviewing applicants.
  • Leads and participates in the requirements, design, development and testing of application software, and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancement of existing applications and systems.
  • Designs, codes, tests, integrates, and documents software solutions.
  • Leads and participates in internal review of software components and systems.
  • Collaborates with project managers and other professionals within Engineering.
  • Follows established development practices and processes to maintain the configuration management of software products.
