About The Position

AxisCare is hiring a full-time, fully remote Software Engineering Manager to build and lead high-performing engineering teams and help reimagine how software teams work in the age of AI. The manager will create an environment where engineers thrive, succeed, and grow, and will lead teams focused on understanding important customer problems, building high-quality software, and running it reliably in production. The role emphasizes using AI development tools aggressively but with sound judgment, helping engineers develop discipline and taste as well as speed. The manager partners with product and design to move quickly from customer problems to working software, and with staff engineers on technical direction, code design, and systems thinking. They set a high standard, lead by example, remain hands-on through spikes and prototypes, and coach engineers to use AI while maintaining code quality and independent thinking. The Software Engineering Manager challenges inherited software-development practices, encourages faster paths to working software, and helps engineers consider customer needs, system dynamics, and production reliability. The position reports to the Director of Engineering. The role can be performed remotely from the Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones, and candidates must be qualified to work in the United States.

Requirements

  • Track record managing software engineers on teams building full-stack web applications.
  • Demonstrated, substantive use of AI development tools in the candidate's own work.
  • Able to work remotely from the Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones.
  • Qualified to work in the United States.
  • Technical credibility to ask sharp questions in code reviews and design discussions and provide real guidance.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, including the ability to explain why work matters, where the team is headed, and what success looks like.
  • Systems-thinking ability and a humble, continuously learning approach to management.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity building and maintaining HIPAA-compliant software.
  • A track record of leading teams through significant changes in tooling or process and helping them navigate ambiguity.
  • Concrete examples of changing team workflows around AI and the resulting outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day health of the teams, helping engineers develop strong daily habits and communication skills and grow in their roles, including learning to direct AI effectively.
  • Partner with product and design counterparts to move quickly from important customer problems to working software, favoring rapid iteration over resolving every ambiguity upfront.
  • Partner with staff engineers on technical direction, code design, and systems thinking.
  • Set a high standard of excellence and lead by example in adopting AI tools and rethinking engineering workflows.
  • Stay hands-on by running spikes, prototyping, and exploring ideas, without taking on critical-path work.
  • Coach engineers on when to trust AI output, when to reject it, and how to maintain code quality when using AI tools.
  • Challenge assumptions and outdated software-development practices and encourage cheaper, faster paths to working software.
  • Create an environment where engineers consider customer needs, system dynamics, and the requirements of running software reliably in production.

Benefits

  • Medical insurance fully covered for the employee.
  • Dental insurance fully covered for the employee.
  • Vision insurance fully covered for the employee.
  • Company-provided laptop and other needed computer equipment.
