Software Engineering Manager, Billing

Render
•$236,000 - $295,000

About The Position

Render is hiring a senior technical leader to lead its Billing engineering team and ensure customers are billed accurately, reliably, and transparently as the company grows. The role sets the multi-quarter strategy and technical direction for usage-based billing systems, including usage capture, data pipelines, third-party billing platforms, and invoicing. The manager owns the billing roadmap from usage metering through reconciliation and financial reporting, and partners with Finance, Product, and Customer Experience leadership to turn pricing, reporting, and customer needs into deliverable plans. The role also develops the team and its leaders, supports planned hiring and growth, and makes architectural decisions that balance long-term investment with near-term pricing launches and fixes. The position calls for a people-focused leader who remains hands-on when useful, including reviewing code, prototyping, and contributing directly.

  • Hands-on experience with usage-based billing, payments, or other revenue-critical systems, including third-party platforms such as Orb, Metronome, or Stripe.
  • Ability to partner closely with Finance, Product, and Customer Experience without needing to fill those functions.
  • Strong business instincts and ability to connect engineering investment to billing accuracy, revenue, and customer trust.
  • Experience and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading a billing platform migration or pricing model change.
