About The Position

AxisCare is hiring a full-time, fully remote Software Engineering Manager to build and lead high-performing engineering teams and help rethink how software teams work in the age of AI. The role focuses on creating an environment where engineers thrive, succeed, and grow, while delivering high-quality software that solves important customer problems and operates reliably in production. The manager is expected to use AI development tools substantively and with sound judgment, encourage engineers to use them effectively, and help the team distinguish useful output from unreliable results. The role partners with product, design, and staff engineering counterparts to move quickly from customer problems to working software, favoring rapid iteration. It remains hands-on through spikes, prototyping, and exploration, while avoiding critical-path ownership. The position is fully remote and open to candidates able to work remotely from the Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones and qualified to work in the United States. AxisCare provides a laptop and other needed computer equipment. Salary is to be determined based on job experience and skill level.

Requirements

  • Track record managing software engineers on teams building full-stack web applications.
  • Demonstrated, substantive use of AI development tools in the candidate's own work.
  • Able to work remotely from the Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones.
  • Qualified to work in the United States.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills.
  • Systems-thinking ability.
  • Technical credibility to lead engineers, ask sharp questions in code reviews and design discussions, and provide guidance.
  • Humble, curious approach to management and continued learning.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with building and maintaining HIPAA-compliant software.
  • Track record leading teams through significant changes in tools or processes and helping them navigate ambiguity.
  • Concrete examples of changes made to team workflows around AI and the results.

Responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day health of engineering teams and help engineers develop strong work habits, communication, and skills.
  • Coach engineers to use AI as a core part of software development, including judging when to trust or reject its output and maintaining code quality.
  • Partner with product and design counterparts to move quickly from important customer problems to working software through rapid iteration.
  • Partner with staff engineers on technical direction, code design, and systems thinking.
  • Set a high standard of excellence and lead by example in adopting AI tools and rethinking workflows.
  • Stay hands-on by running spikes, prototyping, and exploring ideas without taking on critical-path work.
  • Teach engineers how to develop their skills rather than doing the work for them.
  • Challenge inherited software-development habits and encourage faster, lower-cost paths to working software.
  • Help engineers consider the whole problem, including customer needs, system dynamics, and reliable production operations.

Benefits

  • Employee medical, dental, and vision insurance covered in full.
  • Company-provided laptop and other needed computer equipment.
