The Software Engineering Intern will help develop on-demand containerized test environments for the Broadband Plasma division’s distributed software used in high-end semiconductor inspection systems. System-level testing often depends on real hardware or large, dedicated environments that are expensive and slow to set up. The intern will help create a configurable test harness that emulates multi-node distributed systems on a single server and starts and shuts down as needed for test runs. The work includes extending an existing container-based prototype into a multi-service environment, adding network delay and fault injection to simulate configurations and failure modes, reproducing past defects to validate the harness, and integrating it into the CI pipeline so integration tests run automatically when code changes. If time allows, the intern may apply the framework to a larger distributed system of a central server and about 20 nodes, replacing a dedicated VM test environment and measuring resource and startup-time savings. The internship provides practical experience with containers, test automation, CI, and how large distributed systems are built and tested in production. The work is intended to improve developer productivity and reduce infrastructure costs. The position is based in Milpitas, California. Base pay is $37.00–$49.00 per hour, based on pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
