About The Position

As a Software Engineering Intern in Apple Services Engineering, you will help develop Apple’s cloud services infrastructure by working on the FoundationDB query engine that powers CloudKit. CloudKit is Apple’s privacy-focused database platform for securely storing and synchronizing structured data across devices, serving billions of active Apple customers. It supports Apple services such as Photos, Drive, Notes, Keynote, and News, as well as third-party applications. You will contribute to new capabilities that support existing services and enable new applications. With guidance from a dedicated mentor, you will work on a multi-tenant platform, collaborate with teams across Apple, and participate in project execution from design reviews through production releases. You will also learn how to deploy, scale, and maintain highly concurrent, high-throughput services and help investigate production and operational issues.

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent degree.
  • Experience developing software in Java, C, or C++, gained through coursework, projects, or prior work.
  • Coursework or project experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Available to work full-time for the duration of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Background with key-value data stores, such as FoundationDB, DynamoDB, or Cassandra.
  • Fundamentals in storage systems, such as schema design, indexes, and transactions.
  • Familiarity with database query processing, such as query planning, execution, or optimization.
  • Exposure to concurrent and multithreaded programming.

Responsibilities
