About The Position

The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) Compute team is seeking an experienced software engineer to build and enhance how teams across Apple deploy workloads on Kubernetes clusters. The role focuses on core Kubernetes components, particularly controllers and infrastructure, to improve efficiency and address Apple’s requirements in collaboration with the upstream community. The engineer will help build the platform that delivers applications at scale to Apple’s end users. As part of ASE Compute, the engineer will partner with teams across Apple to develop Kubernetes container-orchestration capabilities, improve service scalability, availability, and performance, evolve system design and architecture to support growth while maintaining customer satisfaction and smooth operations, and work with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to investigate and remediate production issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field, or equivalent related experience.
  • Strong experience building and scaling core components of Kubernetes or similar orchestration systems.
  • High proficiency in Golang.
  • Track record of owning technical design end-to-end, from design documents and architecture tradeoffs through implementation and review.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Kueue, Yunikorn, or related technologies to increase Kubernetes cluster efficiency.
  • Ability to drive a project from a simple idea to production.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with teams across Apple to develop features and functionality that enable Kubernetes clusters to meet container-orchestration needs.
  • Improve the scalability, availability, and performance of services centered around Kubernetes.
  • Evolve design and architecture to support continued growth while ensuring customer satisfaction and smooth operations.
  • Partner with SRE to triage, investigate, and remediate production issues.
  • Build and enhance the way teams across Apple deploy workloads on Kubernetes clusters.
  • Work on core Kubernetes components, with an emphasis on controllers and infrastructure, to optimize efficiency and engage with the upstream community on Apple’s requirements.
