Software Engineering Intern

KLA•Milpitas, CA
•$37 - $49

About The Position

The Software Engineering Intern will work on the software behind KLA’s high-end semiconductor inspection systems. The summer project is to develop on-demand, containerized test environments that emulate multi-node distributed systems on a single server, reducing reliance on expensive and slow-to-set-up hardware or dedicated test environments. The intern will extend an existing container-based prototype into a configurable, multi-service test environment; add network delay and fault injection to model different system configurations and failure modes; reproduce past defects to validate the harness; and integrate it into the CI pipeline so integration tests run automatically when code changes. If time allows, the intern may apply the framework to a larger distributed system with a central server and about 20 nodes, replacing a dedicated VM test environment and measuring resource and startup-time savings. The role offers practical experience with containers, test automation, CI, and how large distributed systems are built and tested in production. The work is intended to improve developer productivity and reduce infrastructure costs. The position is based in Milpitas, California. The stated base pay range is $37.00–$49.00 per hour, based on pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
