About The Position

RTX is hiring a Software Engineering Co-op for a full-time, onsite session running January through August 2027, including the Spring semester. Students are expected to take a semester off from coursework to fully engage in the working mentorship opportunity. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining flight-critical embedded software for next-generation aviation and mission solutions, contributing to high-integrity systems that meet rigorous safety, reliability, and airworthiness standards. The co-op will participate in the software lifecycle, including defining requirements, implementing features, developing test procedures, performing verification, and producing certification-ready artifacts. The position is based onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and requires U.S. citizenship because only U.S. citizens may access information under the program or contract. The co-op offers exposure to embedded Linux, C/C++, networking protocols, device drivers, hardware interfaces, and simulation environments. Participants will learn about avionics processing and computing technologies, the software lifecycle from requirements and architecture through development, verification, and certification, and engineering processes for safety-critical software. The stated salary range is $37,000–$82,000. Eligible hires may receive benefits, with specific offerings dependent on the business unit and collective-bargaining coverage.
