About The Position

RTX is offering a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session for Summer/Fall 2027, running from May/June to December. This opportunity requires students to take a semester off from coursework to fully engage in a working mentorship. As a Software Engineering Intern within Tactical Communications, you will contribute to software-defined tactical radio platforms, advanced networking solutions, and cryptographic systems. You will collaborate with experienced engineers across multiple disciplines, gaining hands-on experience with modern development tools, embedded systems, and innovative approaches to trusted communications. The work involves optimizing performance, enhancing robustness, and exploring new design concepts to ensure products meet operational needs. This role is ideal for individuals excited by complex technical challenges, curious about how trusted systems are engineered, and eager to learn from experts shaping the future of the connected battlespace.

Requirements

Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session
Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session
Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects
U.S. citizenship is required
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

Active U.S. Department of Defense Clearance or the ability to obtain one
Some experience with C/C++, Rust, or Python programming languages
Some experience with Git or other version control systems
Familiarity with embedded software development
Familiarity with Linux development environments
Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience

Responsibilities

Engage as a part of a team developing embedded software, networking and communication products using C/C++, Python, and Rust
Support project success by collaborating with others across the full software development lifecycle (requirements, design, implementation, test development, and verification)
Participate in new software initiatives and work as a part of a collaborative team: supporting each other and helping to make decisions that impact the overall cost, schedule, and technical performance of your team
