At Level 1, the engineer creates and modifies basic programs with guidance and supports coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, performance monitoring, documentation, and basic to moderate designs and prototypes. At Level 2, the engineer creates and modifies moderately complex programs, contributes to more complex code reviews and moderate to complex designs, mentors engineers, and may lead design execution or assist with requirements analysis, technical debt reduction, and application architecture. At Level 3, the engineer develops complex software solutions, provides technical leadership, leads code reviews, contributes to architectural decisions, mentors engineers, and collaborates across teams to reduce technical debt. Level 3 work also uses cloud-native platforms, automation, and AI technologies to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions, including guidance on responsible AI-enabled development. Across levels, the role develops cost-effective solutions and enhancements for new and existing software applications, programs, and processes by analyzing information, investigating problem areas, and implementing solutions. It supports the product lifecycle through system performance monitoring and review, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, code reviews, and software changes made according to department standards. The role also contributes to DevOps practices, supports designs and prototypes, helps create and execute test plans and program specifications, and uses test environments and cases to design, prototype, validate, and correct systems. Programs, processes, and procedures are documented to communicate changes and maintain operational efficiency. Levels 2 and 3 contribute to improvements in coding standards, tools, and development processes; Level 3 also helps evaluate and implement automation, emerging technologies, and AI-enabled development practices. The position is hybrid and located in Des Moines, Iowa. Wellabe describes its culture as inclusive and focused on well-being, development, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
