About The Position

Vega Federal is hiring backend software engineers to build, secure, and operate enterprise API solutions for critical federal missions. Engineers work with Java, Linux, and Broadcom Layer 7 API Gateways on an Agile team delivering production-ready software. The openings are for mid-level engineers who build and maintain services, and senior engineers who architect solutions, lead technical work, and mentor others. There are four openings: two mid-level and two senior.

Requirements

Active Top Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship are required before the start date.
Active CompTIA Security+ certification is required before the start date.
Strong Java development skills.
Hands-on experience with Broadcom Layer 7 API Gateways.
Solid network programming and network security fundamentals.
Linux scripting experience (Bash/Shell).
Ability to work 100% onsite in Richardson, Texas, or willingness to relocate.
Clear written and verbal communication.
Mid-level: At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience in Java, network programming, and Linux.
Senior: At least 8 years of professional experience in senior backend Java architecture, enterprise system integration, and enterprise API design; deep experience architecting and maintaining Layer 7 in complex environments; and strong technical leadership.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of OAuth2, SAML, JWT, digital certificates, and secure routing.
Python scripting and Linux system administration.
AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
DevSecOps and Agile/Scrum experience.
Senior-level: Enterprise identity and access management, PKI, and API security governance.
Senior-level: Advanced Python development.
Senior-level: Experience architecting AWS cloud-native applications.
Senior-level: Experience building DevSecOps practices into the SDLC.

Responsibilities

Develop, integrate, and maintain backend services using Java and network programming.
Configure, author policies for, integrate, and troubleshoot Broadcom Layer 7 API Gateways.
Write Linux automation, utility, and deployment scripts.
Manage API authentication, digital certificates, SSL/TLS, and secure routing across multitier networks.
Work with Agile teams to deliver resilient software on schedule.
For senior engineers: architect and optimize mission-critical backend services and integration pipelines.
For senior engineers: lead Layer 7 policy authoring, custom assertion development, and gateway architecture.
For senior engineers: design CI/CD and deployment workflows for seamless system integration.
For senior engineers: drive security implementations including OAuth2, SAML, JWT, and mutual TLS (mTLS).
For senior engineers: mentor junior and mid-level engineers and set standards for code quality, security, and performance.
