Mid-Level Software Engineer

Torch Technologies, Inc.•Huntsville, AL
•Onsite

About The Position

Torch Technologies is seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer to integrate vendor-developed flight software into a proprietary six-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) simulation environment. The work supports independent verification and validation (IV&V) of flight software for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures program. The role focuses on connecting external vendor flight code to an in-house simulation framework and ensuring accurate interface behavior, timing, data exchange, and functional compliance before and during test execution. The position is performed in a lab at Redstone Arsenal at a customer site, with no telework option. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Travel is 0–10%. Relocation assistance is not available, and the position is not contingent upon a contract award. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of applicable software design engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for integrating vendor flight software modules.
  • Working knowledge of Python and/or MATLAB for simulation tooling, test scripting, and data analysis.
  • Experience with Linux-based development and simulation environments.
  • Familiarity with software build systems, linking, and cross-compilation.
  • Knowledge of containerized development workflows.
  • Understanding of software IV&V processes and the distinction between developer testing and independent verification.
  • Ability to interpret vendor and MDA software/interface requirements and assess integration compliance.
  • Strong software debugging skills, particularly for integration-layer defects such as data marshaling, timing, and interface mismatches.
  • Ability to produce clear technical reports and briefings communicating integration status and analysis results.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of 6DOF simulation concepts, including rigid body dynamics, coordinate frames, and guidance/navigation/control interfaces.
  • Basic understanding of aerospace or missile defense systems.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate vendor-supplied flight software, delivered as source code, object code, or compiled libraries, into the team's 6DOF simulation environment and resolve interface, build, and compatibility issues.
  • Analyze MDA and vendor interface control documents (ICDs) and software requirements to ensure correct simulation integration and data flow.
  • Debug integration problems caused by differences in coding practices, compilers, data structures, and timing assumptions between vendor software and the host simulation.
  • Support IV&V test execution by configuring simulation scenarios, checking flight software behavior against expected 6DOF trajectory and dynamics outputs, and documenting discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with simulation architects, systems engineers, and vendor contacts to troubleshoot integration failures and validate fixes.
  • Publish integration status reports, test-readiness documentation, and briefing materials summarizing analysis results.
