About The Position

We are seeking a talented and passionate Senior Software Engineer (Back End) to join the Catalog Engineering team. You will be responsible for developing high-performance and scalable Catalog Services that meet the needs of millions of Walmart customers. This role involves designing and developing integrations with next-generation downstream applications built on an event-driven platform with a micro-service architecture. We are looking for intellectually curious engineers who are passionate about technology. The Walmart Catalog team focuses on enhancing Seller and supplier experiences in setting up and managing the Catalog platform. Our tech stack includes Java for backend services, offering opportunities for growth and collaboration. The Catalog Engineering team has developed a highly scalable Catalog Orchestration Service. You will work on NextGen upstream integration, catalog migration to a new platform, and develop highly scalable catalog microservices. You will independently handle high-impact, critical software/systems monitoring issues and troubleshoot business and production issues. As part of this fast-moving, entrepreneurial team, you will contribute to innovation and development of best-in-class methodologies that impact perception and business.

Requirements

Experience with Java and building Java-based backend systems
Building and implementing microservices and applications using Spring Boot and reactive frameworks like Spring WebFlux and Project Reactor (Mono and Flux)
Experience in internet-scale distributed technologies (e.g. Solr, Kafka, Mem Cache, etc.)
Deep understanding of Spark engine
Strong understanding of J2EE components, multithreading, and networking
Extensive knowledge of offline storage, caching, and performance tuning
Experience with cloud-based solutions and hands-on experience with CICD development environments/tools, including Git, Maven, and Jenkins
Strong understanding of CS Fundamentals, Microservices, Data Structures, Algorithms, and Problem Solving
Familiarity with GenAI best practices, such as: Using AI-powered code analysis tools to improve code quality and maintainability. Implementing AI-driven testing frameworks to ensure robust testing and validation. Leveraging AI-based performance monitoring and optimization tools to improve system efficiency. Designing AI-enabled data pipelines to streamline data processing and analysis.
Experience with NoSQL Databases like Cosmos DB, Cassandra and ability to design and implement scalable data models
Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native development, and microservices architecture
Experience with containerization using Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes
Strong understanding of DevOps practices, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous monitoring
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area OR 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.
Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

Design & develop highly scalable services and solve complex software systems problems by leveraging state-of-the-art technology and enhancing Walmart Catalog and Partner experience solutions
Lead by example, demonstrating exceptional and experienced developer skills
Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information and engaging support teams to resolve issues
Perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrence of issues and ensure compliance with Walmart code of conduct
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members to ensure compliance with Walmart code of conduct
Work in an Agile environment, adhering to best practices and collaborating with teams to deliver results
Stay up to date with the latest GenAI trends and technologies and contribute to the development of innovative solutions that improve the Seller and supplier experience on our Catalog platform
Participate in medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project, product and business requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; gathering requested information (for example, design documents, product requirement); designing robust and scalable architectures; writing and developing code; conducting unit testing; communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with cross functional teams; troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes; enhancing design to prevent re-occurrences of defects; ensuring on-time delivery
