About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer (Sr. Data Engineer), you will lead the delivery of scalable, secure software solutions by managing feature implementation, testing, and ongoing support across multiple customer data platforms. This role requires expertise in multiple programming languages and a product-driven approach to align technical outcomes with business objectives. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and maintain high-quality systems, integrating AI/ML components and leveraging automation tools. Your technical leadership will drive continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence while ensuring adherence to best practices and project timelines. The GDF Customer Data Platform team delivers foundational customer data infrastructure, privacy enforcement, and identity resolution capabilities that empower Walmart's Growth organization to operate efficiently and compliantly at enterprise scale. The team focuses on building scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions through collaborative engineering, iterative development, and continuous improvement. Team members engage in full lifecycle software delivery, integrating AI/ML components and leveraging advanced engineering practices. The team prioritizes measurable business impact, technical excellence, and proactive problem-solving while fostering knowledge sharing and innovation to support Walmart's strategic objectives and enhance customer experiences.

Requirements

Strong experience with GCP cloud technologies and programming languages, including Python, Scala, Java, and Shell scripting.
Proficient in Apache Spark, Hive, MapReduce, Airflow, REST APIs, and GraphQL.
Strong experience building scalable and robust applications using Big Data technologies.
Hands-on experience building event-driven data processing solutions and real-time streaming applications using Apache Kafka.
Experience with transactional Big Data platforms such as Cassandra and BigQuery.
Experience leveraging AI tools throughout the SDLC lifecycle.
Capable of building AI agents for business and engineering use cases.
Skilled in writing complex SQL, Spark SQL, Hive, and NoSQL queries for large-scale data processing.
Experience building and integrating stream-based data pipelines with RESTful APIs and GraphQL services.
Experience with scripting languages, including Python and Shell scripting.
Proficient in Java backend development with strong programming skills; candidates should possess both Big Data and Java expertise.
Experience handling and triaging complex production issues.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
OR 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.
Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining the company to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

Own the delivery of scoped features and components through collaborative engineering teams, ensuring alignment with platform and system objectives.
Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code across multiple programming languages, driving the full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD and automated testing.
Integrate AI/ML components and leverage generative AI tools to enhance software capabilities and development efficiency.
Participate in solution design, conduct code reviews, and apply best practices for building scalable, secure, and maintainable systems.
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements and measurable outcomes.
Monitor application performance, support defect resolution, and ensure high-quality software delivery.
Mentor peers, promote continuous improvement, and contribute to engineering excellence and innovation.
