Software Engineer (Agent Infra)

Hinoki Security•San Francisco, CA
•$200,000 - $300,000

About The Position

Hinoki Security is building an AI-native platform that maps enterprise exposure, identifies what is genuinely dangerous in a customer’s environment, and drives remediation through verified resolution. The platform is already in production at Fortune 500 enterprises. This is a critical engineering hire with broad ownership over core platform infrastructure. Depending on the candidate’s strengths, the role may involve leading systems that orchestrate research agents, a data layer that models customer environments in real time, verification surfaces that check agents’ work before it reaches customers, or reporting surfaces that communicate impact to CISOs. Hinoki values high-quality engineering and product decisions with clear provenance, including the reasoning, ownership, and evidence behind actions. The team invests in internal frameworks that help employees and coding and production agents work quickly while minimizing mistakes. The company works in TypeScript and C++, but prioritizes engineering depth over specific languages. Security experience is not required; the company will teach the domain.

Requirements

  • Three to six years of engineering experience.
  • Experience with AI agents in production, including autonomous systems with multi-step reasoning, tool use, memory, evaluation, and failure handling.
  • Distributed systems experience, including real failure modes such as leases, retries, idempotency, and blast-radius reasoning.
  • Production-depth cloud experience in at least one of AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Use of Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor as part of a daily workflow, with the ability to articulate where these tools help and where they do not.
  • High agency: able to read a plan and ship without waiting for tickets, and willing to fix problems regardless of code ownership.
  • Good engineering judgment and a preference for small, reversible changes.
  • Engineering depth; specific programming languages are not required.

Responsibilities

  • Own core platform infrastructure.
  • Depending on strengths, lead systems that orchestrate research agents, a data layer modeling customer environments in real time, verification surfaces that validate agents’ work, or reporting surfaces communicating impact to CISOs.
  • Build and operate production AI agent systems with multi-step reasoning, tool use, memory, evaluation, and failure handling.
  • Ship and maintain distributed systems that handle failure modes such as leases, retries, idempotency, and blast-radius concerns.
  • Use high agency to execute on plans, address broken systems, and work across code regardless of ownership.
  • Make small, reversible engineering changes and choose appropriately between extracting helpers and keeping code inline.
