About The Position

We are seeking a Software Engineer to drive the development of a secure and reliable peg between Bitcoin and Stacks. This role involves ensuring that deposits and withdrawals of Bitcoin are handled safely and reliably through threshold-signing coordination. You will also be responsible for developing signer software that performs under real-world conditions, ensuring the sBTC signer network remains healthy, observable, and resilient. Additionally, you will create tooling to make sBTC easier to build on, monitor, and debug, and contribute to a codebase built for scale and change, emphasizing scalable architecture, disciplined refactoring, and thorough testing.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building and shipping products.
  • Strong, demonstrated engineering fundamentals, including scalability, architecture, refactoring, algorithms, and testing.
  • Experience building and operating security- or reliability-critical backend systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both internal teams and external partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in Rust, which is the primary language of the sBTC codebase.
  • Working knowledge of blockchains, distributed systems, peer-to-peer systems, and decentralization.
  • Familiarity with the Bitcoin protocol.
  • Knowledge of multi-party cryptography.
  • Experience testing distributed systems for behaviors in the presence of faults, network partitions, and network delays.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to developing, maintaining, and testing the sBTC protocol and its signer software.
  • Design and implement core peg mechanics — deposits and withdrawals — and the threshold-signing coordination that secures the sBTC wallet.
  • Implement rigorous and thorough monitoring and testing to meet the stringent security and performance requirements of a system safeguarding real Bitcoin.
  • Design and implement supporting tools and utilities, such as CLI clients, applications that support moving sBTC on or off the Stacks blockchain, and utilities for monitoring signer health, benchmarking, or debugging.
  • Collaborate with other teams on new product features across the Stacks blockchain, including applications that support moving sBTC on or off the Stacks blockchain and protocol integrations.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners, communicating design decisions and trade-offs clearly as sBTC integrates with new products and partner systems.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation including $160,000-$200,000 USD base salary.
  • Stacks (STX) tokens - STX is the native cryptocurrency of the Stacks network.
  • Comprehensive health coverage and free life and disability insurance.
  • Up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave to support you through one of life's biggest transitions.
  • Monthly stipends for your home office or co-working space of choice.
  • Annual learning and development stipend to keep growing your skills.
  • An open vacation policy, take the days you need when you need.
  • 401(k) with a 3% match.
