About The Position

Toyota Financial Services (TFS) is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Software Engineer to join their growing technology team. This role is ideal for an early-career professional looking to accelerate their development by working on modern, cloud-native applications and platforms. The engineer will collaborate with experienced engineers, gain hands-on exposure to industry-leading technologies, and contribute to building high-impact solutions used at scale. This is a hybrid position based in Plano, TX, and candidates must reside within a commutable distance. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent practical experience (bootcamp, self-taught with portfolio, etc.)
  • Up to 2 years of software engineering experience (internships and academic projects count)
  • Foundational knowledge of at least one backend language — TypeScript or Python or Java preferred
  • Basic understanding of RESTful APIs — how they work, how to build and consume them
  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows (branching, pull requests, code review)
  • Contribute to team planning sessions, code reviews, testing and production support activities
  • Exposure to cloud services (AWS preferred) even at a conceptual level (what Lambda, S3, and DynamoDB do)
  • Experience with writing unit tests and integration tests aligned with quality standards
  • Curiosity and a growth mindset — you're comfortable saying "I don't know" and then going to figure it out
  • Good communication skills — you can explain what you're working on and ask for help when you need it

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with AWS services like Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, or S3
  • Familiarity with serverless architecture concepts
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform)
  • Exposure to containerized workloads (Docker, ECS)
  • Experience with observability tools (Dynatrace, CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar)
  • Contributions to open-source projects or a strong personal project portfolio
  • Experience in using AI-assisted coding tools like Github Copilot
  • AWS certifications (Cloud Practitioner, Developer Associate)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Agile teams to deliver features from concept to production
  • Build and maintain scalable, cloud-native services on AWS as part of a collaborative engineering team
  • Contribute to technical discussions, design reviews, and team planning sessions
  • Write clean, well-tested code in TypeScript, Python or Java following engineering best practices
  • Participate in code reviews — both giving and receiving feedback to grow your skills and improve code quality
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues across the stack with support from senior engineers
  • Learn and apply engineering best practices: testing, observability, version control, and deployment workflows
  • Take ownership of well-scoped tasks and deliver them with increasing independence over time
