About The Position

The ViaSat Access Edge Terminal Software team designs, develops, delivers, and supports software for embedded satellite terminal products, including Ka-band, L-band, and 5G products used in aviation, maritime, residential, and other sectors. The Software Engineer works as part of a software team with a technical lead and collaborates with other embedded software teams to meet development, design, quality, and agility goals. This is a site-based position, with employees working at least three days (60% or more) per week from a Viasat office or work location. The role may require travel up to 10%.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science or computer engineering.
• 3–5 years of hands-on software development experience using C/C++ and Python.
• 3–5 years of experience with Linux/UNIX.
• Hands-on experience with object-oriented methodology and development.
• Experience using AI tooling in software development.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate software design, including existing codebases.
• Strong sense of ownership.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate in a team environment and with other engineering teams.
• Detail orientation and strong analytical problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience using C/C++, Python, or Rust.
• Experience writing unit tests for C/C++, Python, or Rust.
• Experience with POSIX and Bash shell scripting.
• Experience with build infrastructure tools such as GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
• Experience with Linux kernel development.
• Understanding of multithreaded programming and applications.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
• Coursework or familiarity with RF and satellite communications principles.
