About The Position

Google's software engineers develop next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. Retrieval Engine provides scalable, easy-to-use information retrieval over Google's data. It enables efficient, reliable, real-time retrieval across large-scale datasets containing embeddings, text, geo-locations, and numerics. It powers search engines including google.com and YouTube, and its infrastructure and quality systems provide relevant information to GenAI model context windows for applications such as Search AI Mode, Search AI Overviews, and Gemini. The position focuses on improving the infrastructure for information retrieval and query understanding, and scaling highly reliable, massively distributed, low-latency systems.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience coding with C++.
2 years of experience with distributed systems.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
2 years of experience with machine learning infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Improve the infrastructure that powers information retrieval and query understanding for surfaces such as Gemini and google.com.
Work on highly reliable, massively distributed, very low-latency systems.
