Software Engineer (Voice)

Bandwidth•Raleigh, NC

About The Position

Bandwidth is hiring a Software Engineer to design, build, and operate voice services that support inbound and outbound call control, BXML processing, webhooks, and real-time media, including WebSocket media streaming and WebRTC endpoints via BRTC. The role contributes to REST APIs, webhooks, and SDKs in languages such as Node, Python, and Java that developers use to build voice applications. The engineer works across product, engineering, and support teams on features such as conferencing, TTS/IVR, call recording and transcription, and answering machine detection. The role also involves improving the performance, reliability, and scalability of high-volume, low-latency voice infrastructure; participating in code reviews, design discussions, and on-call rotations; and maintaining high standards for tests and documentation. AI tools are used throughout development, with generated code held to the same security, style, and compliance standards as human-written code.

  • Clear communication and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Eagerness to learn telecom and real-time media concepts such as SIP, WebRTC, and media streaming; prior experience is not required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with real-time communications technologies such as WebRTC, SIP, RTP/media streaming, or VoIP.
  • Exposure to monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog and infrastructure as code such as Terraform.
  • Familiarity with modern CI/CD practices such as GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems or telecom/CPaaS platforms.

  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and on-call rotations.
  • Write tests and documentation to a high standard.
  • Use AI tools effectively throughout development and ensure AI-generated code meets security, style, and compliance standards.
