About The Position

Justworks is hiring a Software Engineer for its Solutions Engineering team to build developer-facing products and support partner integrations. The role focuses on making developers successful through clear, reliable, and pleasant experiences, while learning from how customers and partners use APIs in practice. The engineer will help build the Justworks developer ecosystem, contribute to hands-on integration work, and turn recurring needs into self-service capabilities. The work includes developer portals, documentation tools, SDKs, quickstarts, code samples, and integration templates, alongside well-scoped partner integration components. The role also involves collaborating across Engineering, Product, Partnerships and Sales, and Support, and contributing to design reviews, debugging, incident work, and retrospectives. Success in the role requires sound judgment, resourcefulness, clear communication, dependable teamwork, and continued development of software-engineering, API, testing, and developer-experience skills. Justworks describes its values as Camaraderie, Openness, Grit, Integrity, and Simplicity.

  • Experience with one or more modern programming languages such as TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, Ruby, or Python.
  • Familiarity with HTTP APIs and web application fundamentals, including authentication, structured data, error handling, and testing.
  • Experience building, debugging, or consuming APIs in a professional, academic, open-source, or substantial personal-project setting.
  • Clear written communication, documentation, and collaborative software development skills.
  • Curiosity about developer tools, integrations, and the users of the software being built.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a frontend framework, backend service, API client or SDK, developer documentation, or sample application.
  • Familiarity with OAuth/OIDC, OpenAPI, webhooks, cloud infrastructure, containers, or observability tools.
  • Experience in customer-facing, developer-facing, or cross-functional product work.

Responsibilities

  • Build, test, deploy, and operate developer-facing experiences such as the developer portal, documentation tooling, SDK improvements, quickstarts, code samples, and integration templates.
  • Contribute to partner integrations by researching APIs, implementing well-scoped components, validating integration flows, and preparing technical documentation and test plans.
  • Pair with senior engineers in partner working sessions and progressively own bounded technical discussions and follow-up deliverables.
  • Turn repeated questions and friction into improvements to documentation, samples, SDKs, tooling, and product feedback.
  • Write maintainable code with appropriate automated tests, logging and metrics, code review, and security practices.
  • Participate in design reviews, incident and debugging work, and team retrospectives, and use lessons learned to improve the developer journey.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Partnerships and Sales, and Support.
  • Seek context, assess the impact of changes, raise risks early, and take ownership of committed work.
  • Investigate thoughtfully, use available tools and documentation, and ask for help when it will unblock progress.
  • Communicate clearly, document work, welcome feedback, and treat collaborators respectfully.
  • Contribute ideas, share learning, and build trust through dependable execution.
