About The Position

Justworks is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Solutions Engineering to lead partner integrations and improve the developer ecosystem. The role combines product engineering, API integration work, and developer experience. The engineer will independently lead technical discovery and solutioning for priority partner integrations, from API research and architecture through implementation support and launch readiness. The position also builds and maintains developer-facing capabilities such as portals, documentation tools, SDKs, sample apps, quickstarts, templates, and support automation. It owns partner integrations or parts of the developer journey through delivery, operational readiness, and ongoing improvement, using partner feedback and telemetry to make integrations more self-service. The engineer works closely with Public API Engineering, Product, Security, Support, and other stakeholders, and contributes through design and code reviews, mentoring, and technical leadership. The role is based in Justworks’ New York City office. The targeted base wage range there is $188,000–$242,000 per year; compensation varies based on factors including skills, relevant experience, and work location. Justworks describes its environment as welcoming and casual and mentions benefits, wellness offerings, company retreats, and opportunities to interact with and learn from startup-community leaders.

  • Backend and/or full-stack web development experience in one or more modern languages such as TypeScript, Go, Ruby, or Python.
  • Experience designing reliable integration behavior, including retries, idempotency, asynchronous workflows, data contracts, monitoring, and incident and debugging practices.
  • Clear technical writing skills and ability to explain architecture and tradeoffs to engineers, product partners, and external developers.
  • Evidence of delivering customer-facing or developer-facing experiences with a high bar for usability and documentation.
  • Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across Engineering, Product, Partnerships and Sales, Support, and Security.
  • Ability to learn quickly, select appropriate tools, and write well-tested, well-documented software.

Nice To Haves

  • Build and maintain developer ecosystem capabilities, including portal experiences, documentation tooling, SDKs, sample apps, quickstarts, integration templates, and developer-support automation.
  • Create reference implementations and reusable patterns for OAuth, webhooks, retries, idempotency, error handling, and observability.
  • Run technical working sessions with partners, translate requirements into decisions and action plans, and communicate platform boundaries accurately.
  • Work with Public API Engineering and Product to identify developer friction, validate API designs with realistic use cases, and provide evidence-backed feedback.
  • Own a multi-surface developer journey or portfolio of partner integrations from design through delivery, operational readiness, and iteration.
  • Improve developer self-service using support questions, integration telemetry, and qualitative feedback to prioritize documentation, SDK features, product enhancements, or platform requests.
  • Review designs and code, mentor teammates, and improve engineering quality in internal systems and partner-facing artifacts.
