About The Position

Walmart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the delivery of scalable software solutions through collaborative engineering teams. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining high-quality code across multiple languages and platforms, with a focus on AI/ML integration and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will drive technical excellence, mentor peers, and ensure alignment with broader system objectives. They will engage with stakeholders to translate complex requirements into effective solutions while supporting operational reliability and innovation within a dynamic, fast-paced environment. As part of Walmart’s Physical AI organization, our team develops high-performance indoor positioning systems and spatial data infrastructure that support physical stores. We integrate real-time sensor telemetry, edge computing, and large-scale data pipelines to achieve sub-meter indoor positioning accuracy. Our mission is to connect digital intelligence with the physical world, enabling precise location-aware experiences across associate and customer applications nationwide. By transforming spatial data into real-time physical intelligence, we enhance navigation, optimize workflows, and lay the foundation for autonomous, AI-driven retail operations at scale.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading data engineering development
• Strong experience delivering scoped features or models through collaborative engineering teams.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages including JavaScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, and C++.
• Demonstrated ability to drive full software development lifecycle with CI/CD, automated testing, and monitoring.
• Experience integrating AI/ML components and leveraging generative AI tools to enhance development.
• Skilled in code review, debugging, and maintaining high-quality, scalable software solutions.
• Ability to translate complex business problems into actionable technical requirements.
• Strong collaboration and mentorship skills supporting continuous learning and engineering excellence.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
• 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.
• Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

• Lead data engineering efforts for platform analytics
• Own scoped feature and model delivery through collaborative engineering teams, managing implementation, iteration, testing, and support.
• Write clean, efficient, and reliable code across multiple languages, driving full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.
• Integrate AI and ML components to enhance software intelligence and leverage generative AI tools to improve development velocity.
• Participate in solution design, conduct code reviews, and ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable software aligned with platform standards.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements and define success metrics.
• Monitor application performance and ensure high-quality software delivery through continuous integration and testing.
