Software Engineer - Rust

BotCity
•Remote

About The Position

BotCity builds governance tools for code written with AI. Its Sentinel product inventories code running on corporate endpoints, applies contextual policies to allow, alert, or block code, and provides a remediation loop. BotCity serves more than 1,000 teams in over 70 countries, has raised a $12 million Series A, and is a remote company with teams across the US, Canada, and LATAM. The Software Engineer will build and own the native Rust agent behind BotCity’s product. The agent runs on customer endpoints across major operating systems to track and govern executing code. The engineer will keep the agent fast, stable, and lightweight, and help shape its architecture. The role is intended for someone with deep production Rust and systems programming experience who can own complex low-level problems from start to finish in a small team. This position reports to the VP of Engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience with systems programming languages such as Rust, C, or C++.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on production experience writing, deploying, and maintaining Rust applications.
  • Deep practical understanding of Rust’s ownership model, borrow checker, and lifetimes.
  • Expertise in Rust concurrency patterns, including multithreading, synchronization primitives, and asynchronous programming.
  • Ability to write safe, idiomatic Rust and carefully manage unsafe blocks when needed for performance or FFI integrations.
  • Experience building native or desktop applications or system-level software, beyond only web back-end or front-end development.
  • Solid knowledge of operating system internals, including processes, threads, memory, IPC, and file systems, especially on Windows.
  • Strong focus on performance, memory safety, and low resource consumption, with experience profiling and optimizing code.
  • Prior experience in an early-stage, high-growth, fast-paced startup environment.
  • Experience with Git and GitHub, CI/CD, automated testing, and cross-compilation or build pipelines for native binaries.
  • Familiarity with MS Office/Excel, Google Suite, and Notion.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support events and meet the team.
  • Fluent Portuguese.
  • Advanced English.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Python, especially Rust–Python integration such as PyO3 or maturin.
  • Robust knowledge of system tracing, instrumentation, hooking/interception, or security/endpoint agents.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows, Linux, and macOS internals, as well as FFI and interoperability between languages.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain native applications and system-level components in Rust.
  • Ensure high performance, stability, and minimal resource consumption for software running on customer endpoints.
  • Work with product and engineering colleagues to decide what to build and how to build it.
  • Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architecture and technology-stack decisions for the agent.
  • Participate in code reviews and help ensure best practices in Rust and systems development.
  • Write clear technical documentation to support effective collaboration across teams.
