Senior Software Engineer, Rust

Anduril•Broomfield, CO
•$165,000 - $219,000

About The Position

Anduril is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop and evolve advanced software for mission-critical defense applications, including target tracking, state estimation, sensor fusion, and situational awareness. The role works in small, innovative teams and focuses on delivering real-world, deployed solutions rather than limiting work to research or proof-of-concept experiments. The engineer will provide technical direction and subject-matter expertise, architect and maintain complex software systems, and develop high-performance Rust software for real-time systems, simulations, and decision-support tools. The role includes designing algorithms and probabilistic systems that draw actionable insights from noisy or incomplete sensor data, validating solutions through simulations and statistical analysis, and integrating technologies into production software lifecycles. The engineer will also tailor solutions to mission-critical customer needs and communicate technical progress to colleagues and end users. Applicants must have at least eight years of professional software engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in a technical field. An advanced degree is strongly preferred. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance. Anduril requests academic transcripts during the early application process or, if transcripts are not provided, detailed information about relevant academic performance, coursework, and projects. The U.S. salary range is $165,000–$219,000, base salary only. Actual offers may vary based on experience, education or training, critical skills, and business considerations. Competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers. Anduril also offers a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees, described as available at little to no cost to employees.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, or another technical field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and evolving software architecture in production environments, including refactoring legacy systems and managing technical debt.
  • At least 2 years working on a single codebase or product, maintaining and expanding it as requirements evolved.
  • Strong understanding of software design patterns, architectural principles, and best practices for maintainable, scalable systems.
  • Proficiency in algorithm design, software development, statistical modeling, Rust, and Python.
  • Solid understanding of applied mathematics, including linear algebra, optimization, probability, and stochastic processes.
  • Familiarity with big-data pipelines, NoSQL databases, and efficient handling of large-scale sensor data.
  • Ability to engineer robust systems for estimation theory, adaptive filtering, controls, and complex signal environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across development lifecycles, from prototyping to production-system optimization.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree; strongly preferred.
  • Experience refactoring and modernizing production Rust codebases.
  • Track record of architectural decision-making and technical leadership on long-lived projects.
  • Contributions to open-source Rust projects or the broader Rust ecosystem.
  • Experience with concurrent and parallel programming patterns in Rust.
  • Experience in state estimation, including Bayesian filtering, sensor fusion, and recursive estimation techniques.
  • Background in machine learning applied to target tracking and recognition, including clustering, classification, and anomaly detection.
  • Strong knowledge of target-tracking techniques, such as Kalman filters, particle filters, and multi-target tracking algorithms including JPDA, MHT, or PHD filters.
  • Knowledge of signal-processing techniques for interpreting diverse sensor data, such as radar, lidar, and EO/IR.

Responsibilities

  • Define and influence the direction of a small team using subject-matter expertise in target tracking and state estimation.
  • Architect, maintain, and evolve complex software systems, including refactoring existing codebases to improve performance, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Prototype and deploy algorithms for tracking, multi-sensor data fusion, and state estimation in agile, iterative development environments.
  • Develop high-performance Rust software for real-time systems, simulations, and decision-support tools.
  • Design and implement filters, estimators, and probabilistic reasoning systems to produce actionable insights from noisy, ambiguous, or incomplete sensor data.
  • Apply software design patterns and architectural best practices to manage technical debt and guide production-system evolution.
  • Analyze system performance using high-fidelity simulations, modeling tools, and statistical techniques.
  • Customize algorithms and software for mission-critical customer use cases, including real-time tracking and sensor fusion.
  • Integrate tracking and estimation technologies throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements definition through testing and optimization.
  • Translate technical progress into clear, actionable insights for colleagues and end users.

Benefits

  • Competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
  • Comprehensive, competitive benefits package for full-time employees, described as available at little to no cost to employees.
