Software Engineer
About The Position
Optum is seeking a Software Engineer to develop, test, and maintain robust, scalable applications using .NET and C#. The role contributes to RESTful APIs and backend services within a microservices architecture, prepares applications for deployment using containerization technologies, and deploys and supports applications in Microsoft Azure. The engineer also writes and maintains SQL queries, contributes to database design, troubleshoots technical issues, participates in code reviews, and follows CI/CD processes. The position includes designing, developing, and deploying AI-powered solutions to address business challenges, with an emphasis on responsible AI use. The role offers the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the United States, subject to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy. Applicants must pass a drug test before beginning employment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an IT-related field.
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience using the .NET framework.
- At least 5 years of experience building applications with ASP.NET Core and creating Web APIs.
- At least 5 years of experience with SQL and relational databases such as Azure SQL.
- At least 2 years of experience working on applications deployed in a cloud environment.
- At least 2 years of experience with microservices principles and RESTful API design.
- At least 2 years of experience using Git for source control in a team setting.
- At least 1 year of experience with containerization concepts.

Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain robust and scalable applications using .NET and C#.
- Contribute to RESTful APIs and backend services within a microservices architecture.
- Work with containerization technologies such as Docker to prepare applications for deployment.
- Deploy and support applications within the Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
- Write and maintain efficient SQL queries and contribute to database design.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in development and production environments.
- Collaborate with team members on code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to best practices.
- Follow established CI/CD processes for deploying applications.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to technical discussions.
- Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions for complex business challenges, emphasizing responsible use of AI.
