Software Engineer

Turing•Boston, MA

About The Position

Turing is hiring a Software Engineer as a software engineering evaluator for AI model training and evaluation initiatives. The role involves creating datasets for training, benchmarking, and advancing large language models in close collaboration with researchers. Work includes curating code examples, providing solutions, correcting code, and evaluating and refining AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability. The position also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve enterprise-level AI-driven coding solutions, building agents that assess code quality and identify error patterns, and developing mechanisms to automatically verify solutions to software engineering tasks. The engagement is flexible, requiring a minimum of 10 hours per week and allowing up to 40 hours per week, with partial Pacific Time overlap required. It is a one-month contractor engagement starting next week, with potential extensions based on performance and fit. Candidates must be based in the US, Canada, or specified Western European countries (UK, Netherlands, Italy, or Germany). The role does not include medical benefits or paid leave. Applicants will complete an AI video interview and, after applying, receive an email with a login link to access the portal and complete their profile.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong expertise in building full-stack applications and deploying scalable, production-grade software using modern languages and tools.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design, development, debugging, and code quality and review assessment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for clear, structured evaluation rationales.
  • Experience or ability to work with Python, JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go.
  • Availability for at least 10 hours per week, up to 40 hours per week, with partial Pacific Time overlap.
  • Must be based in the US, Canada, or one of the specified countries: UK, Netherlands, Italy, or Germany.

Responsibilities

  • Curate code examples, build solutions, and correct code for AI model training initiatives.
  • Evaluate and refine AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve AI-driven coding solutions against industry performance benchmarks.
  • Build agents that verify code quality and identify error patterns.
  • Hypothesize about steps in the software engineering cycle and evaluate model capabilities across those steps, including prototyping, architecture design, API design, production implementation, launch, experiments, monitoring, and operational maintenance.
  • Design verification mechanisms that can automatically verify solutions to software engineering tasks.
