•$122,000 - $160,000•Remote

About The Position

Automox is hiring a Software Engineer for its Agent Team to build and evolve its cloud-native endpoint management platform, which autonomously manages configuration, security, and patching across Windows, macOS, and Linux devices. The role focuses on services that communicate with more than 2 million Automox agents deployed globally, along with event-driven services and endpoint software. The engineer will work in a remote, cross-functional team and contribute across backend and frontend development. The position involves building and operating high-availability SaaS applications in AWS, with attention to security, testing, performance, service health, and data-informed decisions. Automox uses a 70/20/10 engineering model: roadmap work, technical debt and service health, and protected time for learning and exploration. Teams are moving toward full service ownership, and significant technical decisions receive Architecture Review Board oversight.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of experience designing, developing, testing, and monitoring applications deployed in a high-availability SaaS environment.
  • Professional experience shipping frontend features with TypeScript in a modern JavaScript framework, and comfort owning the UI portion of a feature with a backend you built.
  • Experience building production applications in cloud environments, particularly AWS, with strong security best practices.
  • Familiarity with scaling microservice architectures and large-scale event ingestion platforms.
  • Familiarity with scaling WebSockets and real-time messaging systems such as Kafka or MQTT, non-relational databases such as DynamoDB, and DevOps.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in a closely connected, cross-functional remote team.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers, Product Managers, Program Managers, and Technical Support.
  • Must be able to pass federal, state, and county background checks and complete local in-person verification.
  • Must be eligible to work without visa sponsorship; Automox is not able to sponsor work visas.

Nice To Haves

  • Programming experience in Go or Java; candidates with experience in other languages will also be considered.
  • Experience building desktop or cross-platform applications.
  • Experience with software running on customer endpoints across macOS, Windows, or Linux, such as agents, installers, or system services.
  • Experience writing automated end-to-end tests using Python, Playwright, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, and secure solutions that facilitate communications with more than 2 million globally deployed Automox agents.
  • Extend, enhance, and evolve event-driven services to deliver features in the Automox platform and endpoint software.
  • Test, tune performance, refactor, improve usability, and automate as part of continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate technical options, make clear recommendations, and iterate based on feedback.
  • Apply a quality-first approach to testing.
  • Use data to understand the impact of development before changes reach production.
  • Contribute to operating and improving owned services, including their cost profiles, failure modes, and operational behavior.
