Software Engineer, Technical Lead – Performance Data Platform

NVIDIA•Santa Clara, CA
•$272,000 - $431,250

About The Position

NVIDIA is seeking a technical lead to invent and develop a platform that helps engineers assess the performance of AI workloads running across numerous computing nodes. The team builds software tools that help technical users understand complex computing systems. This role will lead the architecture of a system that collects performance data at data-center scale, maintains searchable historical data, and enables people and automated analysis agents to find and explain performance issues. The platform will evolve from an early prototype into a product used by other teams, with the technical lead continuing to contribute hands-on as the team grows. The role includes defining the end-to-end architecture, making and documenting foundational technical decisions, coordinating with partner teams, building early services and tooling, and shaping how automated analysis agents query the platform and report evidence-based results. The technical lead will also review diagnoses, drive initial use cases with design partners, mentor engineers, and establish engineering practices for the growing team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, including technical leadership of an end-to-end, data-intensive platform used by other teams.
  • Experience developing or managing systems where automated agents or models process large amounts of production data, including methods for assessing result quality.
  • Practical knowledge of GPU and machine-learning workload performance, including the ability to review diagnoses, question evidence, and identify important signals.
  • Track record of crafting APIs and data models that evolve without breaking existing users or deployments.
  • Hands-on ability to build and deploy services and tooling, including with automated development tools, and independently verify results through tests and measurements.
  • Clear communication of technical choices, trade-offs, and uncertainty to engineers, partner teams, and leadership, and ability to align teams without direct authority.
  • Proficiency with C++, Go, and Python.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in developer tools, profilers, or performance-analysis products.
  • Experience transforming a prototype into a platform embraced by multiple teams with distinct priorities.
  • Experience with identity, access control, and multi-tenant builds for products that hold customers’ data.
  • Evaluation approach for analysis-agent or model output, such as labeled cases, precision and recall, and abstention.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and TypeScript.

Responsibilities

  • Define the end-to-end architecture, including the data model, service and API contracts, and boundaries with data-producing tools and teams.
  • Make foundational technical decisions and document the rationale, alternatives considered, and evidence that could change those decisions.
  • Align architectural decisions with partner teams and their roadmaps.
  • Build early services, APIs, and a deployment path so partners can develop against the system before all roles are filled.
  • Define how automated analysis agents operate within the platform, including permitted queries, the relationship between results and evidence, and cost and response-time constraints.
  • Review performance diagnoses and drive initial use cases with design partners.
  • Mentor engineers and establish engineering approaches for the growing team.
