About The Position

This role is part of the Research and Development Engineering Development Program, designed to cultivate engineering and leadership skills across key areas of Stryker’s innovation ecosystem. Engineers in this program will participate in on-site functional rotations within R&D, gaining hands-on experience in critical aspects of medical device development. The program spans 20 months, beginning each September, and includes comprehensive training in both technical and professional competencies. Participants will also benefit from exposure to Senior Leadership and networking opportunities across Stryker’s global business units. As a Software Engineer, Applications at Stryker, you will support application software development and maintain design documentation for robotic-assisted surgery products. You will collaborate closely with peers and subject matter experts to develop market-leading software that meets customer and system requirements. Under supervision, you will follow the established design practices and apply sound software engineering principles to ensure that application software products are safe, robust, and user-friendly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software, Computer Engineering / Computer Science or related discipline & 0+ years of work experience.
  • 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA (or equivalent).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and not require employment-based sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
  • Exposure to C++ and object-oriented programming.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated efficient work methods, analytical & problem-solving skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively work cross-functionally and externally as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with integrated development environments (IDEs) for projects.
  • Exposure to the Qt/QML framework, Linux, Docker, and version control systems.
  • Knowledge of SDLC and Agile software development.
  • Experience with tools for static/dynamic software analysis, memory management, unit testing, and code coverage.
  • Experience with or coursework in linear algebra, computational geometry, computer graphics, software architecture, image processing, and robotics.

Responsibilities

  • Support and contribute to the design and implementation of application software that controls, navigates, and serves as the user interface for robotic surgical systems using Agile software development methodologies.
  • Support and execute software product development activities under supervision in accordance with defined requirements and architecture, while adhering to established design principles and coding standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with members of R&D, Quality, Marketing, and Project Management to ensure project success as a member of a Scrum team.
  • Under supervision, follow established Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) procedures and guidelines to ensure software quality through code reviews, unit and component testing, code analysis, and defect management.
  • Assist in refining software engineering documentation in accordance with R&D procedures and the Quality Management System (QMS).
