1X is building humanoid robots for home use, aiming to automate chores and tasks to give people back their time. This involves solving challenges in robotics, AI, and manufacturing simultaneously, at scale, and in a safe form factor for family environments. The company has been developing these robots since 2014 and is now focused on shipping its flagship home robot, NEO. The role is critical for scaling the company from hundreds to tens of thousands of robots, ensuring customer trust and enabling engineers to move quickly. The NEO Reliability team is responsible for the reliability and testing plan for all software systems on and interacting with the robot. This includes front-end, back-end, cloud, mobile, on-robot services, and the embedded stack. Their work encompasses hardware-in-the-loop testing, end-to-end regression, incident management, on-call duties, observability, release gating, and defining Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for reliability. The team ensures that robot software is trustworthy at fleet scale, from the initial developer tests to the robot's operation in a user's home.
