About The Position

Nuclearn.ai builds AI-powered software for the nuclear and utility industries, focusing on tools that enhance the reliability, efficiency, and safety of critical infrastructure. Their software incorporates AI-driven workflow, documentation, and research automation, and is currently utilized in over 60 nuclear reactors across North America. Interns will contribute to production code that operators and engineers depend on daily. The company is experiencing rapid growth, expanding its team and its Phoenix headquarters. The work is significant, contributing to safer and smarter operations at power plants.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript, with experience writing real-world code.
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills, with an ability to dig into logs and trace root causes.
  • A bias toward durable solutions, understanding the underlying reasons for issues.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and handle ambiguity.
  • Comfortable using AI tools and understanding underlying software architecture principles.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (green card) is required due to DOE export compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building APIs with Python and FastAPI, including handling validation and async patterns.
  • Familiarity with Docker and containerized environments, including images, containers, and debugging build issues.
  • Experience integrating agentic AI models into a product, orchestrating models for complex, multi-step tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Triage and resolve production bugs surfaced through Sentry, investigating root causes, writing fixes, and shipping patches across the full stack.
  • Build and ship features on the product roadmap alongside senior engineers, contributing to major releases.
  • Write production code across the full stack, including React for the frontend and FastAPI for the backend.
  • Learn modern delivery practices such as CI/CD pipelines, code review workflows, and shipping reliable software in a regulated industry.
  • Independently triage and fix incoming Sentry bugs, diagnosing issues, scoping fixes, and shipping them to production.
  • Own features end-to-end, from understanding requirements to writing backend APIs in FastAPI and frontend UIs in React, through code review and deployment.
  • Participate in design discussions and code reviews, collaborating with engineers on architectural decisions, surfacing trade-offs, and contributing best-practice recommendations.
  • Strengthen platform reliability through bug fixes and troubleshooting, directly resolving customer pain points and making the product more robust.
  • Ship features that customers use, seeing code go live and observing real user interaction.
  • Improve reliability metrics across the platform, leading to fewer Sentry alerts, faster resolution times, and more stable releases.
