Software Engineer, Internship - Query Engines

Palantir Technologies•New York, NY

About The Position

Palantir is hiring a software engineering intern for a team that applies open-source data technologies to complex, consequential problems. The team builds and extends the data-processing infrastructure underpinning Palantir Foundry, supporting workloads such as no-code pipelines, interactive analysis, and keeping the Ontology up to date. The intern will work on production systems and learn how computations are represented, query plans are optimized, operators execute, and data is read and written efficiently. Projects may include writing a planning rule, adding a capability to a native execution engine, or improving the scanning performance of large tables. Work will proceed through design, code review, testing, and release, with emphasis on correctness, compatibility, and predictable performance. The team uses technologies including Apache Spark, Apache DataFusion, Apache Comet, Velox, Apache Iceberg, Apache Arrow, and Apache Parquet. Prior experience with these technologies is not required; the team expects interns to learn them.
