About The Position

FifthColor's Software Engineer Internship Program offers students hands-on experience in development, AI research, and applied engineering. Interns contribute to real client and internal projects, sharpening practical skills and working collaboratively with a team. The program provides mentorship, hands-on learning, and a sense of community, serving as a starting point for future FifthColor talent. Interns will contribute to building, enhancing, and supporting software products, platforms, and AI-driven capabilities. They will gain exposure to how technology, data, and AI create value for clients, improve internal processes, and drive innovation across the agency. Through meaningful project work, mentorship, and collaboration, interns will develop practical skills and help shape FifthColor’s digital future.

Requirements

• Junior or Senior working toward a Bachelor’s degree, or a student currently pursuing a Master’s degree, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field, for the duration of the internship.
• Interest in one or more of the following focus areas: AI Researcher/Engineer (Interest in LLMs, open-weight models, AI research and AI implementation into software), Software Developer (Familiarity with any of our tech stacks (React, MySQL, Node, NET, C#, PHP) and API integrations), or Prompt Engineer (Development-focused majors interested in designing and optimizing prompts for AI systems).
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and test software features and system concepts that satisfy project requirements.
• Assist with API integrations across internal and third-party platforms.
• Maintain and deliver controlled software releases using appropriate version control and configuration management tools.
• Develop and execute test plans to verify software meets design and requirements specifications.
• Research and experiment with LLMs, open-weight models and emerging AI tools to identify opportunities for implementation into FifthColor’s software and workflows.
• Support prompt engineering efforts, including designing, testing and refining prompts for AI driven features and tools.
• Collaborate with the development team to debug, document and improve existing codebases.
• Stay current on AI research trends and share relevant findings with the team.
