About The Position

GDIT is seeking exceptional engineers for their Summer Internship Program in 2027, focusing on Software Development. This role emphasizes writing code, shipping products, and working on significant features. Interns will contribute to a fast-paced, collaborative environment, delivering new features and improving the reliability of core services. Responsibilities include identifying and addressing system bottlenecks or flaws in business logic, taking ownership of product problems, and developing data-proven solutions. Interns will work across the technology stack, participate in a mentoring circle led by an early career champion, interact with GDIT leaders, and engage in professional development.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled senior in a bachelor's or master's degree program in computer science, IT, engineering, or other STEM field from a United States-based college or university.
  • Proficiency in JAVA/Python.
  • Desire to learn new software languages and technologies.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships with manager and members of your team in a remote environment.
  • Self-aware enough to identify and correct mistakes, and not afraid to ask for help when needed.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities.
  • Active in seeking out ways to develop yourself and gain new knowledge personally and professionally.
  • Intuitiveness with an ability to identify and solve complex problems related to rapidly changing technology.
  • A sense of genuine, intellectual curiosity and a nimble mindset.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, and Teams).
  • US Citizenship Required.
  • Applicants should have a minimum of one semester remaining in their studies after their internship concludes.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in Python/Java or similar language.
  • Expert in majority of language constructs, able to apply them fluently to solve complicated and complex problems.
  • Experience with performance tuning.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver new features and improve reliability of core services, including major read/write paths for customer intake, application screening, and information dissemination.
  • Identify major system bottlenecks or flaws in business logic and proactively address them.
  • Take ownership over core product problems, develop solutions, and prove their impact at scale through data.
  • Work across the stack to solve problems without reliance on other engineers or teams.
  • Participate in a mentoring circle led by an early career champion.
  • Interact with GDIT leaders.
  • Participate in professional development.
