About The Position

We are hiring a Software Engineer – Integrations on the Enterprise Services API Support team at BCBST! In this role, you will build and support enterprise APIs that connect critical applications across the organization. You’ll work across the full API lifecycle by partnering with application teams to design and deliver integration solutions, while also supporting production environments through incident response, release management, and deployments. Your work will directly impact the reliability, scalability, and stability of enterprise services, with opportunities to drive continuous improvement in API performance, governance, and overall platform health. To be successful in this role, in addition to core engineering fundamentals, you’ll bring strong experience working with APIs and IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE). You will be a strong candidate if you have hands-on experience with IBM API Connect and a proven ability to support and enhance complex integration environments. Experience within the healthcare industry is preferred and will help you quickly add value in this environment. Note: This role includes participation in an on-call rotation (one full week approximately every six weeks) and after-hours deployment activities. This is a remote, work-from-home position, but the final round of interviews will take place on-site in our Chattanooga, TN office. Candidates must be able to work EST hours. Sponsorship is not available for this role.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in a Computer Sciences related field or equivalent work experience.
4 years of professional work experience in a corporate environment.
3 years - Systems and programming experience required
1 year - Experience with information technology concepts, application development methodology, terminology, and standards required
1 year - Expert working knowledge of at least one programming language in use at BCBST.
Proven technical background with a history of designing and documenting integration solutions, ensuring interoperability, security, and performance
Proficient in programming languages and tools relevant to integration and application development.
Experienced in API design, development, and management
Proven analysis, design, and coding skills, and demonstrated success in leading large and complex projects
Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate technical and/or or complex concepts into information meaningful to project team members and/or business personnel.
Be organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks with exceptional work ethic.
Leadership skills: Must be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical co-workers

Nice To Haves

Experience within the healthcare industry is preferred
hands-on experience with IBM API Connect

Responsibilities

Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to design, develop, modify, or integrate complex information systems.
Devises or modifies application systems and procedures to optimize functional requirements including capacity, operating time, response time, and form of desired results.
Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents programs, subroutines, and scripts.
May serve one or more project team roles, such as project lead, business systems analyst, or technical lead, for small to medium efforts or manage phases of medium to large efforts.
Maintains technical skill set for software languages, databases, platforms, operating systems, utilities and networks needed to support work assignments.
Responds to system failures and performance events by taking appropriate measures to reduce system downtime and eliminate recurrence of problems.
Regularly provides guidance and training to less-experienced analysts/programmers
