About The Position

As a Software Engineer III, you will lead the design and development of scalable software solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management and user experience. You will troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective resolutions to enhance system performance. This role involves managing projects from requirements gathering through deployment, ensuring high-quality code and timely delivery. You will also provide technical guidance to small engineering groups, support continuous integration and testing efforts, and contribute to maintaining secure, dependable, and maintainable applications aligned with business objectives. The Data Services team develops and operates scalable, available distributed SQL and NoSQL platforms supporting enterprise applications. Specializing in backend engineering, API development, site reliability, and DevOps automation, the team ensures platform stability and continuous enhancement. Leveraging automation and AI-assisted engineering, the group drives operational excellence and innovation. Collaborating closely with product, infrastructure, and operations teams, the team upholds Walmart’s core values of integrity, respect, service, and excellence while fostering technical expertise, ownership, and alignment with business goals.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in software design, development, and debugging using object-oriented programming and languages such as C.
  • Strong technical acumen with knowledge of API design, platform development, and component services.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, translating requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions.
  • Proficiency in iterative and incremental development methodologies, including Agile practices.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and automation scripting.
  • Skilled in root cause analysis, defect management, and troubleshooting production issues.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide technical guidance to peers.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product, project, and user experience teams to define high-level designs for small to medium projects.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve business and production issues through root cause analysis and coordinated action plans.
  • Develop, test, and deliver scalable, maintainable code aligned with technical and business requirements.
  • Manage complex projects by translating requirements into technical solutions and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Support users by providing technical guidance and identifying sustainable solutions.
  • Mentor small engineering teams, providing documentation, direction, and oversight.
  • Implement automation scripts and telemetry features to enhance development and monitoring processes.
  • Support SQL Databases like Postgres and Contribute to the PostgreSQL open-source ecosystem by extensions, plugins using C programming.
