Software Engineer III (Java Full Stack)

JPMorganChase•Jersey City, NJ

About The Position

As a Software Engineer III on JPMorganChase’s Digital Post Trade Technology team, you will serve as a seasoned member of an agile team, designing and delivering trusted, secure, stable, and scalable technology products. You will develop critical technology solutions across technical areas and business functions to support the firm’s business objectives. The role involves designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting software; producing architecture and design artifacts; and maintaining secure, high-quality production code. You will use enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development tools responsibly to support coding, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation, validating their outputs against correctness, performance, security, and resiliency expectations. You will also analyze diverse data to identify problems and patterns and drive ongoing improvements to software applications, coding practices, and system architecture.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and at least 3 years of applied experience.
  • Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Proven experience with Java, Spring or Spring Boot, Kafka, and React.
  • Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment using one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools for activities such as coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation, and the ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and resiliency and security expectations.
  • Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies and practices such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.

Nice To Haves

  • NoSQL experience, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB concepts, and/or strong data modeling for non-relational use cases.
  • Cloud exposure in AWS, Azure, or GCP, including basic architecture, networking and security primitives, managed services, and observability.
  • Familiarity with modern front-end technologies and practices, including TypeScript, state management, component libraries, and testing frameworks.
  • Experience or exposure to AI modeling basics, including evaluation, prompting, model limitations, and safety and security concerns.
  • Experience or exposure to agentic architecture patterns, including tool-using agents, orchestration, guardrails, and evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Execute software design, development, and technical troubleshooting, using sound judgment to solve technical problems beyond routine approaches.
  • Create secure, high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that run synchronously with appropriate systems.
  • Use enterprise-authorized AI coding assistance and development automation to improve code quality, delivery speed, productivity, and the value of automation; validate outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
  • Contribute learnings and reusable patterns that improve broader team effectiveness, and guide peers in safe and effective AI-assisted engineering practices.
  • Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications and ensure software development meets design constraints.
  • Gather, analyze, synthesize, and visualize data from large, diverse datasets to support continuous improvement of software applications and systems.
  • Identify hidden problems and data patterns and use those insights to improve coding hygiene and system architecture.
