Software Engineer III

JPMorgan Chase & Co.•New York, NY
•$137,750 - $185,000

About The Position

As a Software Engineer III on JPMorgan Chase's Commercial & Investment Bank Production Management team, you will solve complex business problems by modernizing and operating mission-critical systems. You will configure, maintain, monitor, and optimize applications and cloud infrastructure, independently improving existing solutions. You will contribute to end-to-end operations, availability, reliability, and scalability, and help promote site reliability engineering practices across the team. The role focuses on production support and reliability engineering: monitoring service health, leading incident triage and response, improving observability, coordinating support operations, and partnering with engineering teams on root-cause fixes and safer releases. You will also use enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to support incident analysis and identify reliability risks or recurring operational toil, validating recommendations and following data-sensitivity and security requirements.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and at least 3 years of applied experience.
  • Proficiency in site reliability culture and principles, with familiarity implementing SRE practices in an application or platform.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Java/Spring Boot, or .NET.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise-authorized AI capabilities for SRE workflows, with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity.
  • Ability to validate AI-assisted operational recommendations before applying changes, escalate when uncertain, and follow data-sensitivity requirements.
  • Proficient knowledge of software applications and technical processes in a technical discipline such as cloud, AI, or Android.
  • Practical AWS experience supporting production services, including visibility, troubleshooting, deployments, and operational hygiene.
  • Ability to write code, such as Python or Java, to automate support work and reduce operational toil.
  • Experience operating in time-sensitive environments, such as market hours, with strong incident discipline and stakeholder communication.
  • Strong debugging fundamentals across distributed systems, including logs, metrics, latency analysis, dependency failures, and data issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Markets experience, especially pricing, risk, or market data support; Fixed Income experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Datadog metrics, logs, traces, alert tuning, dashboards, and basic SLO concepts.
  • Familiarity with messaging and streaming patterns such as Kafka or MQ, and data quality checks in execution and pricing pipelines.
  • Experience applying AI-assisted tooling to reduce support toil.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and assist others in creating appropriate designs, gaining peer consensus where appropriate, and adopting site reliability engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and other teams to design, develop, test, and implement deployment and reliability approaches using automated CI/CD pipelines.
  • Use enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to accelerate incident triage, troubleshooting, and post-incident analysis while validating outputs and handling operational data appropriately.
  • Monitor alerts, dashboards, service health indicators, and user feedback, and coordinate rapid ownership and response when issues arise.
  • Improve instrumentation, dashboards, and alert quality; use trends and incident data to reduce noise, prevent recurrence, and lower MTTR and incident frequency.
  • Maintain and improve the support operating model, including runbooks, handoffs, escalation paths, shift coverage, and post-incident actions and follow-through.
  • Partner with engineering and service owners on root-cause fixes, change and release standards, cross-service dependencies, and automation or self-service tooling.
  • Lead L1/L2 production support by triaging incidents, investigating causes, applying safe mitigations or workarounds, and providing clear stakeholder updates through resolution.
  • Apply enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to find operational patterns indicating reliability risks or recurring toil and prioritize reuse-first improvements tied to SLO outcomes.

Benefits

  • Competitive total rewards package, including base salary determined by role, experience, skill set, and location.
  • Eligible roles may receive commission-based pay and/or discretionary incentive compensation in cash and/or forfeitable equity.
  • Comprehensive health care coverage.
  • On-site health and wellness centers.
  • Retirement savings plan.
  • Backup childcare.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
