Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) treats operations as a software problem. The team’s mission is to progress, protect, and provide for the software and systems behind Google’s public services, with a focus on availability, latency, performance, and capacity. SRE keeps important, revenue-critical systems running through disruptions and configuration problems, and has the access and authority to fix, extend, and scale code to maintain and harden those systems. The work spans systems and software engineering, from detailed hardware and I/O concerns to service capacity at a continental scale. SRE owns products in production and drives reliability and performance across large-scale systems and a user population measured in billions. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The U.S. salary range is $147,000–$210,000, plus a 15% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
